Scholarships and bursaries

The health workforce scholarship program provides scholarships and bursaries to health professionals in rural and remote Australia to enhance and retain their skills and practice.

The program is available to health professionals –in medical, nursing or midwifery, dental, allied health or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health –working in primary health care to locations in MM 3-7 within private practice, non-government and not-for-profit sector are eligible to apply.

Health professionals providing primary health care services in an Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) or Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) can be located within a MM 1 – 7 location.

What funding is available?

  • Scholarship: A payment of up to $10,000 for 12 months (for up to 24 months) for a postgraduate course leading to a postgraduate qualification such as a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, or Masters.
  • Bursary: A payment of up to $10,000 within a 12-month period that covers the cost of training or course fees and/or cover or partially cover training-related expenses, where appropriate such as an accredited industry conference or vocational education and training course.

 

Eligible applicants can apply for up to $10,000 in a 12-month period (between Bursary and Scholarship applications). The funding period begins on the date of the first approved course/conference.

Please note that you need approval for the grant before doing the education activities you would like to claim.
